About North Pier

The North Pier is 1400ft long with steel work of 760 tons consisting of 420 tons of cast iron and 340 tons of wrought iron work, is the oldest of all 3 piers in Blackpool.

It was opened in 1863 and extended in 1874 to make way for a steamer jetty, but when no longer used anglers used it until 1997 when it was destroyed by a storm.

The pier is acclaimed for its design for its ingenious use of iron work in the seating and railings. It also has some domed kiosks which are now shops. The buildings have been altered at times, and due to a fire in 1938.

The original pier had its wide decking and roped of area for up to 3000 deck chairs. Summer shows are in the theatre each year and there are ice cream, souvenirs, rock, and book shops.
